[ML-General] hardware RAID

With the data transfer speeds of the 3+ GB SATA, even a single SATA
drive can keep up with HD video recording using a BlackMagic converter.
But, even 2 Tb will fill up -fast- with HD video. :) I've not tried
compression in real time to see if it works. So even in software, raid
0 is working ok but if the same hardware controller can do both
simultaneously, I might as well; else just get 2 controllers as the raid
sets are in different machines.

Maybe it is not raid 5 for mirroring, but I thought it was. Of course,
pot ruined my memory back in 1968... Anyway, mirroring is what I want.

In Linux, I use the everyday mdadm for mirroring, without LVM. Oh yeah,
Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian. Got real tired of Suse long ago. I miss
Slackware. :) (now RedHat I think.)

Aside but related: I'm strongly considering a mirrored network disk
array. Maybe mirror two of the new 6TB drives. Maybe one of the Linux
machines (with the newer mobo w/6Gb/second data rates) could host the
network array. (VideoMonster will still have the striped disks
internally but I wouldn't mind having it able to access a central disk
system at the same time.)
