I've just been alerted that the amazing folks at Drive By Press are going to be at UAH today and tomorrow. If you haven't heard me talk about it before, it's two guys Joe and Greg and they drive around the country with a collection of blocks and screens and they give lectures about modern art, how the internet changes everything about artists and art movements, and a history of guerilla art, everything from Banksy to tshirt presses to Baroque newspaper cartoons. They also sell cool shirts for gas money.

They're doing a demo of their standard printing techniques in the studio today from noon to 5, and they'll be selling tshirts tomorrow from 10-5. They have blocks from some of the best printmakers from around the US, including the Amazing Hancock Brothers, Tom Huck, Bill Fick (who does nothing but gross floating screaming heads), and everybody who's anybody. They have a website where you can see a little of what they'll have for sale at www.drivebypress.org, but it's horrifically out of date. Their art lecture, "The History of Guerrilla Art" is at 6:30 pm in RH-419 and they'll want to go out drinking.

The tshirts are really the best part and they're way better at the printing than I am. Most of the blocks are for works that would typically sell for hundreds
of dollars if they were in a gallery, but since it's a tshirt they're
$20. They'll have blank shirts in all sizes available, but if you buy them that way it's $20. If you bring your own blanks, it's $10. So I reccommend going to Hobby Lobby or wherever and buying your own blanks for $4 and saving some money and getting something with a skull on it that's actually cool.

It's not about computers, but it's a really cool low-tech project to run an entire print studio out of your van and they have the best attitude about art and where it belongs you're going to see. And it's free to just walk up and see their collection of work.
