Hello!

One of our members, Wayne/DarkJedi (the guy who builds costumes) builds rockets in his profession. For the past two years, he working on a robotic lunar lander that will be used by NASA for testing equipment and control algorithms for future space landers. So far, they have been doing programmed test flights to hover and maneuver the lander. Tomorrow at around 10:30am-11am CDT, NASA will be live webcasting a test flight. Wayne will be a Red Crew Leader, so he will be out in the pad working on loading and prepping the lander.

As most of you know, I have been working on a vehicle called the Warm Gas Test Article (WGTA) for the last two years. The lander is a first of its kind prototype designed to prove out algorithms for the next generation of lunar landers. For the program I designed, built, integrated, operate, and maintain the propulsion system for the vehicle which uses 90% hydrogen peroxide that breaks down into water and steam, and is the first propulsion system in almost 50 years to use this propellant.

Tomorrow will be the last flight of the season (we are hoping to resume testing in the spring) and NASA decided that we are going to broadcast the flight LIVE over the internet. I’m not sure how much of the preflight operations will be broadcast (set up, fueling, etc) but the flight should take place somewhere between 11 and 12. The press release with the links for the video can be found here:

If you’re curious what I do at work, this is a good opportunity to see.
