I think pliers should be about $3-$4 if you go to Harbor Freight. They're just awesome like that.
http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/pliers.html

Hi All,

Deb has asked me to put onto Facebook a fundraising effort to try
to fundraise to purchase some bikes for our members who travel to Zambia
with the goal of leaving it for the Ag Center for their use when EWB
members aren't on site. I have a updated the EWB-HSV FB status to reflect
this goal, if all of you on Facebook could share the status to spread the
word that would be great.

Note about Sharing Status: If you just click share, you will only be
sharing the Zambikes website and none of the verbage of the status stating
our goals and how-to. Please copy and paste the status onto your own
status when you share.

Also, it would be great if anyone knows how to track such donations if we
could keep the Facebook updated as to how much we are raising and how much
remaining we need to raise. Does anyone have access to our EWB account
that could track this? I also think it would be great if us members
started off by donated $10 (more or less depending on your own volition) to
get the ball rolling. Please, as stated on the FB page, donate in the name
of Zambikes so that we can track these donations correctly. If everyone
on this email listing donated $10, that's already one bike down! And a
good start to encourage more donations. A friend at work has already given
me $10, and so I'll be going onto our paypal site to donate $20 already :)

Feel free to email me with any comments/suggestions etc.

Thanks,
Amanda
Chainmail??? I don't know what that is. Is that one of those emails that'll
say "pass this email to 25 people and you'll have good luck for 25 days?"
Hey everyone,

For those who missed it before, we are asking communities all over the
world to send in art submissions to be part of the badge for this years'
HOPE conference, which takes place at New York's Hotel Pennsylvania from
13-15 July 2012.

We've gotten some very positive responses, and yet we have to close
submissions soon so we can actually create the badge. If you want to be
part of it, please send your hackerspace or project logos (or
representative images) in SVG file format to hackerspace@hope.net. We will
be accepting submissions until Wednesday, May 9, so please get your
submissions in before then.

We looking forward to seeing all of you at the conference!

Cheers,

Hello all!
A while back I was working on seriously upgrading the ventilation system
for the laser cutter and electronics lab. I got through the design phase,
but sort of lost steam and interest just shy of actually ordering and
installing the parts, in part due to a temporary hiatus I was taking after
getting 'burned out' playing with the laser cutter (pun intended). Well,
now I'm back at it and the last time I tried to use the laser cutter it
gave off some very stinky vapors, and after my throat started tingling I
was acutely reminded of the need to finish this project. Respirator masks
shouldn't be required attire for the laser cutter room.

I remember the first time I got really into using the laser cutter I
started to develop a cough after a few weeks, and now sometimes just being
in the fab lab a few hours after someone has been cutting something, you
can just sort of smell the death hanging in the air (only 'mostly'
hyperbole). I addition to the laser cutter, this upgrade would also add
ventilation and fume removal capabilities to the electronics work area and
soldering stations, whose fumes are less pungent and immediately
irritating, but are still not exactly healthy and need to be taken care of
. I know some of us like to joke around about the "delicious fumes" and
whatnot, but in all honesty this is a very real safety hazard that is long
past due to be dealt with.

My picks for equipment, pricing, and some research notes and links are on
the wiki at the link below.
https://256.makerslocal.org/wiki/40_Watt_Laser_Cutter#Ventilation_Improvement

For those of you too lazy to click the link, here's the cliffnotes version of
the "Finalized" Materials List:
1x 8" InLine blower Fan @ $120
3x 8" ducting @ $25 each = $75
1x Blower Speed Controller @ $22
Total cost ? $217 ? $30 (for hookers and blow)

*Anyone who wants to throw some money into the hat to help with the cost
would be much appreciated!*

I'm hoping to start ordering parts/installing stuff latter this week-ish or
next week.
