Here's how to preselect things in grub.cfg so I don't have to do it when installing:

Debootstrap instructions for when the graphical install doesn't do what I want:

Instructions for using UEFI to boot directly to the linux kernel (without grub):
        <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.debian.org/EFIStub">https://wiki.debian.org/EFIStub</a>

Shiva has an "Intel centrino wireless N 2230" network card.
        deb <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://http.debian.net/debian/">http://http.debian.net/debian/</a> jessie main contrib non-free
        apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

Follow these steps to make the installer work with that wifi card:
        Download and extract the firmware:
                wget <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://debian.gtisc.gatech.edu/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-iwlwifi_0.40_all.deb">http://debian.gtisc.gatech.edu/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-iwlwifi_0.40_all.deb</a>
                mkdir iwlwifi
                dpgk-deb -x firmware-iwlwifi_0.40_all.deb iwlwifi/

        Extract the initrd.gz:
                mkdir initrd
                cd initrd
                zcat ../initrd.gz | cpio -iv

        Copy over the files:
                cp -a ../iwlwifi/* .

        Rebuild initrd.gz:
                rm ../initrd.gz
                find . -print0 | cpio -0 -H newc -ov | gzip -c > ../initrd.gz

I'm using btrfs subvolumes, so once I had wifi the graphical installer was useless:

        ROOTPARTITION=/dev/sdb6

        mkfs.btrfs -L Shiva_Linux $ROOTPARTITION
