I would not consider it a vital component but it has already been
flown by quite a few people and they are excited about how much it
is improving their situational awareness. In side to side A-B
comparisons, it is as good as the commercial versions. And it is a

I've run across this really fun thing called 'stratux' that
is (almost complete) ADS-B in and for less than $130.
Computer of choice for it at the moment is the Raspberry Pi
