[General] Building Codes

My brother called me with one last note, to make sure that all of our
repairs and improvements are okay'd with the landlord before we start
working.  I can't imagine him objecting to us bringing the building up to
code with railings and all, but Ben wanted me to mention we could get in
legal trouble if he doesn't like the staircase or whatever.  So just
wondering, does he know about this stuff?  I know it'd probably never come
to trouble, just call me paranoid.
