This looks like a neat project, and not nearly as sloppy as the one I built (http://buildyourcnc.com/Book.aspx)
The cutting area is 10"x10"x2" and it uses a dremel as the spindle. (I'm looking at you, Mantis >:|

It looks like they use [http://www.hobbycnc.com/] as their electronics source - though I imagine someone could use the arduino based drivers from the reprap project (so long as they got steppers that matched. (IIRC the reprap stepper drivers can't push more than 2 amps)

They use a similar Bearing Rail Assembly to facilitate movement but rather than riding an aluminium corner bracket, it looks like they use bars (its probably a slightly smoother ride)

Also based on photos on their website, it looks like they use belts, rather than screws, to transmit movement from the steppers.

All in all a very neat Open Project,
Phil

Hi Makers!

I'm writing to spread the word about a collaborative project that you may be interested in: an open-source design for a CNC mill, called the DIYLILCNC.

The plans, parts lists, and assembly instructions are available for free, under a Creative Commons license on our site, http://diylilcnc.org. The current design has been online for a little over a year, and building one is a great way to learn about digital fabrication.

We're getting ready to release a second, improved generation of the design and assembly instructions for the DIYLILCNC. We're doing some fundraising right now via kickstarter to offset our R&D costs.

We've got some pretty fun rewards for contributors... donors can have a part of the new machine named after them, or use their contributions to vote for specific design changes they'd like to see in version 2.

Check it out here:

Thanks!

Chris
