[General] Source for basic hardware

Are there any good hardware stores in town?  I'm looking for fasteners (nuts
and bolts), small barstock, a shaft, maybe a tap; basically just odds and
ends.  Home Depot has a few of these things but a really poor selection, are
there any place that specializes in these types of items?
