As a "robot mom”/mentor ( FTC Browncoats 7842), nonconformist, and former security clearance holding defense contractor, please volunteer.
Yes, their are LOTs of jobs other than judging. The Browncoats have volunteered with local FLL competitions in the past and had a blast. Since they will be competing in FTC at the same time, they are not available this year. So, on the off chance all of the FTC volunteer spots are covered, check with the FLL state competition at Grissom.
If you are not volunteering, come watch. As makers, I think you’ll really enjoy it.
Thank You
Faye Lynn Thompson
p.s. Vera would love to meet you.

Like grow up and loose the conspiracy theory mindset not everything is about the government encroaching on your freedom sometimes it's just about making the environment as safe as possible for innocent kids. If you don't like it don't volunteer but don't fill the email with your crap.

The process is carried out on the Verified Volunteers website (which I believe several charity/volunteer organizations use). If you sign up as a volunteer you will be given a link to a website where you create an account and provide some basic info. I am pretty sure you do not even have to give your SSN if you do not want to. I would say 15 minutes of your time, if that.

You will be asked if you want to help defray the costs by paying $2.50, but if you do not want to, FIRST will cover the entire thing at no cost to the volunteer. In my opinion, the background check is not really an obstacle if you are interested in volunteering.

I did want to volunteer until I read that. So count me out and know that, especially for an environment where NO children can be harmed, it is useless political correctness and it angers me GREATLY.

The team has been doing a lot of work trying to promote the FIRST organization in Alabama. As part of their effort, they are hosting a qualifier competition here in Huntsville on Saturday, January 24th and still need some volunteers. We will be hosting up to 24 teams from mostly Georgia and Alabama and those who advance will go onto the Georgia State Championship. The main volunteer positions that are open are judging positions where you get to be part of assigning some of the many awards that are given out. This is a very important task as the awards play a huge role in deciding who advances to the state competiton. Judging comprises of a judging session with the teams as well as your interaction with the teams throughout the day in the pit and during the competition. If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know and I will pass your contact information onto the event organizers. It is really fun to see the ingenuity and energy all of these teams bring to robotics!
