Bill McKibben, the Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College and
author of a dozen books about the environment, will deliver the Founders’
Day address and receive an honorary Doctor of Letters. The Founders’ Day
Convocation will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, in All Saints’
Chapel.
While McKibben is on the Sewanee campus for Founders' Day, he will give a
second talk: "The tar sands battle: a flashpoint in the ongoing climate
war." It will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Guerry Auditorium.
He will also be at a book signing from 4-5:15 p.m. at the University
Bookstore. McKibben’s first book, The End of Nature, published in 1989, is
regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and
has been printed in more than 20 languages. Subsequent books include The Age
of Missing Information; Hope, Human and Wild; Maybe One; and Wandering Home.
His most recent book is Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet.
