Usually if the devices hang, it is a power issue. But it's not necessarily
the power supply at fault; the Pi can only supply 100mA to each of its USB
ports. If you want to run any sort of high-ish power USB device, you'll
want to run it through a powered USB hub. Another symptom of USB power
issues is repeated/missed keystrokes on a connected keyboard.
