There was a group that was doing a power wheels version of this that was organized by some hackerspaces up north. Its no longer an active project.

Sounds like fun Tycho, sadly I'm doing a beer brewing on saturday and committing carpentry on sunday.
Have Fun!

Wasn't there someone in the shop working on a car for this? For some reason I have a memory of someone working on a 240z for exactly this purpose.

This Saturday and Sunday is the first time The 24 Hours of Lemons (not LeMans) is coming to Alabama. What is the 24 Hours of Lemons? See http://24hoursoflemons.com/ for details, but, in short, it's racing crap cars on a real race track to see who can make the most laps.
