Hi Rolf,

Several of the members of the Makers Local 256 are interested in taking
the test to become licensed Ham Radio operators. Makers Local 256 is a
local Make Shop where people can gather to work on Do-It-Yourself type
projects. One of our current projects is a high-altitude weather balloon
whose payload is designed to bring back pictures of the curvature of the
earth from near-space.
Our original plan for tracking and retrieving the package was to use a GPS
equipped cellphone, but we've recently discovered that payload retrieval is
about one in four using a cell phone. Someone said we should consider using
a Ham APRS transmitter. I was hoping you might have some input as to where
we could find someone to sponsor an APRS for our satallite, or where we
could purchase a cheap APRS transmitter. Would you or any of your members
know a good resource for the transmitter? We'd also be interested in
preparing for the test if you have any tips or suggestions.

Sincerely,
Jeff Cotten
